At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.
What You Will Do
Raytheon's Effector Power (EP) Team is looking for junior to mid-level engineers who have power electronics knowledge to help design robust power systems.
The Effector Power Department is responsible for the development, from concept to integration, of Telemetry and Flight Termination products; power systems from all up round to the lowest level power regulation; servo electronics supporting all mechanical motion in our products and low noise mixed signal electronics that provides the analog to digital interface to our front-end sensors. Each of these products generally operate in lower power and voltage ranges less than 10kW and 1000V.
- Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion (and related analog) circuitry. This circuitry will dominantly involve non-isolated and isolated switch mode power converters and linear converters. Main emphasis is on board-mounted power end use applications.
- Architect circuit card-level power schemes and develop related requirements.
- Help to see circuit card development through its design phases, from requirements definition through initial integration testing.
- Drive to meet schedule concerns. Define schedules for circuit level tasking.
- Guide ECAD drafters through layout and routing activities, with moderate support from senior engineers. Assist in layer stackup definition.
- Function as an individual contributor. Understand the role of a small team lead and engage in personal technical growth.
- Clearly present your work product to functional and program leadership.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR an advanced STEM degree with 3 years of prior relevant experience.
- Design, analysis, test, and/or simulation experience with one or more of the following non-isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck-boost.
- Experience using tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, or other similar tools.
- Experience with analog or digital electronics design, including at least one of the following: FETs/BJTs, op-amp, high/low/band pass filters, clock/data termination, and comparator circuits.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Robust design and analysis experience with analog or digital power converter design, to include topologies such as flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, forward, and push-pull. Conceptual familiarity and experience must include stability.
- Conceptual familiarity (professional experience preferred) with transformer and inductor design considerations in power electronics circuits.
- Experience with performing circuit card assembly-level power architecture trades, and/or with system-level power architecture trades, including power converter specification development experience.
- Experience guiding Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and technical drawing creation.
- Experience communicating and documenting technical topics at the small team level.
- Experience in any one of the following:
- Acting as a liaison between program and functional management in a cross-matrixed organization
- Military specifications
- Design considerations for voltages > 400V and/or power > 10kW. Three-phase power systems, power factor control, and inverter/rectifier development
- Program management tools such as Earned Value
- Proposal development
- Circuit simulator SIMPLIS, system simulator SABER, and/or analysis tool Mathcad.
- Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, and/or Hyperlynx.
